High School...oh how I remember it well. The uniform (black trousers, black jumper, white shirt and burgundy and yellow tie) was a statement that we were a school unified as one; we were all the same. Unfortunately, the uniform became not just a physical apparation, but a state of mind too. This was conveyed by me spending practically all of my high school trying to fit in and conform with whichever group seemed like the top priority...with disasterous consequences.
I never had the chance to really find my feet and find out who I truly am, and to be honest, I'm still looking and probably will be for quite some time. But university has been a fantastic help to me so far, as it's let me meet a plethora of new friends from all walks of life and given me opportunities that I never thought I'd get when living in the constraints of a small East Yorkshire town.
It's still early days, and I'm still trying to find my feet with things, but I can honestly say that university has helped me to start coming out of my weird shell and share my freakiness with the world.
Being a little rebel-rebel and breaking free sure has its perks! :)
